Thanksgiving Tips to Keep Your Pet Safe!
There’s something special about Thanksgiving isn’t there?
Getting together with family. Watching Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV. The aroma of Roast Turkey. Eating too much but still finding room for a piece of Apple Pie! Black Friday shopping bargains! The start of the Holidays.
What’s not to like?
However, Thanksgiving can be a dangerous time for your pet so here are four tips to ensure you don’t have to rush your pet in to see us…
1. Watch what you let them eat!
It may be tempting to feed your pet some of your Thanksgiving dinner but it get play havoc with their digestive system. Avoid giving them Turkey skin, Gravy or buttery side dishes. Fatty foods can cause diarrhea, vomiting or even Pancreatitis. If you must share your turkey then chop it up in to small pieces use the white meat as it’s blander than the dark. Never ever, give you pet the bones from your Thanksgiving bird. Cooked bones are brittle and sharp pieces can get lodged in your pet’s intestine or throat. Remember chocolate is toxic to pets so keep it out of reach and sight of your pets.
2. Keep them out of the Kitchen!
Pets and people in a busy kitchen is an accident waiting to happen! You guarantee that even if you avoid dropping something hot or sharp on them they will trip someone carrying a hot dish!
3. Beware their curiosity!
Your pet’s nose can get them into all sorts of trouble during Thanksgiving. Aluminum foil and plastic wrap that has been covering food can smell tempting to your pet but can be a choking hazard. The same goes for the contents of your garbage can. Remember, Holiday plants such as Poinsettias, holly berries, mistletoe and Cedar Christmas trees are toxic to dogs.
4. Train your guests!
Remember your guests may not have pets themselves or may not know the above tips so let them know when they arrive.
